trw control arm from factory?

I am in the process of replacing the front suspension bushings and shocks on my 2002 sl500.

while removing all the associated parts I see that the control arm & ball joint have TRW & a TRWE stamped on them in addition to what looks like a Mercedes paper sticker with part numbers.

I wasn't aware that TRW was a factory supplier- or could my 30K mile car which i have had since April had new control arms installed?

if I decide to replace the complete arm what manufacture is the closest in quality to oem?

thank you

TRW is a major manufacturer for OEM suspension and steering components for many brands including the usual German brands... Mercedes, BMW, etc. Lemforder is another quality manufacturer. Both supply to the aftermarket as well. I would have no worries about buying TRW or Lemforder suspension components, bushings, etc. I've been using them for over a decade on my BMW's without issue. I would never spend the money on a OE suspension part. Just not worth the luxury tax!

A paper sticker strongly suggests a replacement.

Check the dealership service history or one of the crash websites for clues to prior damage.

Not a thing wrong with TRW, Meyle or Lemforder. I've used them all on my SL with no issues.

I have both an auto check & carfax report that show no accident history.

My original plan was to replace the complete control arm , but I am going to try replacing just the bushing ,with Mercedes bushing. That is if I can do this job with out buying an expensive tool to extract and install the bushing.

if I have an issue it might be cheaper to buy the complete arm.

Has anyone made a tool with sockets and threaded rod?

Thank for the feedback.
