R129 - Seat belt cover removal/replacing

Hello all,

Does anyone know how to remove/replace the seat belt cover which is mounted next to headrest, covering seat belt mechanism? I've a 1990 300SL which previous owner destroyed the cover and removed it in pieces

I've purchased a mint condition royal blue cover to install it but I've noticed seat belt buckle won't allow me to insert the belt through the hole of the cover... any ideas/how-to without cutting the belt or the cover? I didn't find any thread or YT video with info related to this.

Thanks in advance.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m in the exact same boat. Short of buying a complete unit on eBay (there is one...) I’d like to be able to use what I already bought.

You unthread the belt through the shoulder fitting.

Disassemble the outboard seat bolster to unbolt the seatbelt at it's anchor.

You will be disassembling the seat. Look for videos about removing the seat bottom and back cushions. This will give you access to the side bolster and the shoulder pivot. It's a little bit of work, but it's really cool to see the technology behind the R129 seats. They won a innovation award all by themselves. Just remember, there are explosive charges related to the seatbelt emergency operation.

I've had both my seats completely apart for maintenance and repair. They are fascinating.
