Thinking of getting a R129

Hey guys,

Always loved the R129 and finally found one, a 2002 SL 500, in good shape that I'm considering purchasing. So wanted to come on here and ask what are the things that I should be looking out for when looking to purchase one (i.e. any specific/known problems, issues, etc.)

Also, I was hoping to replace the stock audi headunit with something that has Bluetooth capability. Is it possible to add Bluetooth to the stock unit? Which units are out there that look as close to stock as possible, but are more modern? Don't want to put something in there with neon lights if you know what I mean.

Thanks.

2001 Mercedes SL500
If you haven't had any experience with these cars and don't know what the potential issues are I strongly recommend taking the car to a Mercedes mechanic and have the car checked out. Also, go to the Crutchfield website and take a look at their car stereo offerings. You'll find something that'll suite your needs. Good luck.

Well, you have definitely decided on the latest production car of the R129.
It's not a bad choice either.

As for the head unit, I have installed the Continental unit which is very OEM looking.

Good luck with your search. Nice cars.

cant comment too much on the mechanical and what to look far, but I second the previous comment, look up Continental audio, they match the look of everything else. The continental models should be a direct fit into the harness (except for the CD changer won’t be usable). They have BLuetooth and built in mic that’s actually pretty good, they can be had with no CD player too for a cleaner face look too.

Thanks! Any idea how to hook up Sirius XM to either the stock headunit or to Continental?
