What is this leak?

I’m considering buying 1996 SL500 with 136k miles. It has a slow leak under the driver side (pictured). The passenger side is dry. No leaks visible in the engine bay.

Also has a hydraulic oil dripping from top of windshield on the drivers side. Otherwise top is new, everything is working, and mechanism in back appears to be OK.

What could be causing the leak under the car and should I not consider purchasing it? Seller is asking $4500.

Good price.

The hydraulic top cylinders (there are 11 of them) are leaking and need to be changed out. 4 are somewhat difficult, the rest are pretty easy for a competent mechanic.

Do a Google search on Top Hydraulics and take a peek at the tutorials for the R129 and the prices to rebuild.

A lot of folks make a big deal out of the replacement, but it's not all that difficult.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably tackle the soft top leak/cylinders myself.

The underbody wetness on the drivers side could be power steering fluid
