SL/R129: FYI: for those interested in last year SL...
Does anyone know if the new v6 SL350 will be coming to the US.
I believe that this model will be offered in Europe and the UK.
I would also like to know if the engine will have the new direct fuel injection system (5% more power/10%-20% better mileage) and will it have the new 6 speed automatic or semi-automatic transmission?
Thanks,

Any dealer with excess R129 SL inventory is HIGHLY MOTIVATED to move them out. ...RAB
I received an invitation from House Of Imports (Buena Park, CA) yesterday in the mail. They are offering the last of their SL500 allocation at ridiculous prices. If anyone wants one, now is the time. I believe the deal was you get on a special SL Classic Owner Program (MBUSA program) which gives you free car washed, dent removal, smog checks, etc. for the life of the car. Plus, HOI is paying your first 2 months payment. The lease deal was $5k down for 60/mo at $899/mo on an $85k car...not bad. Just FYI. (By the way, this does NOT include the Silver Arrow)
As soon as they got their first 2002 SLK 32 AMG, I got invited to come in for a test drive. I came that night and was told I wasn't allowed to drive it that night since it was their first car, blah-blah-blah. But I was told I could drive it if I would buy it first. Huh?
Maybe they had a lack of communication. But anyway, I felt their salespeople are too aggressive.
Fortunately, I got a call the next day from another dealer that received their allocation of the SLK32. I was allowed to test drive. And I bought the car AFTER I test drove.
On that same phone invitation to test drive the car, I was told my mileage to visit the showroom would be reimbursed. Not that it matters to me b/c it's only chump change. But #1 - it IS chump change, #2 - this kind of thing does not motivate me, #3 - does anyone actually believe a Mercedes driver would be enticed to visit the showroom for a couple of bucks?
But after I went there for the test drive (or NON-test drive, I should say), nobody ever said anything about reimbursement.
So, no test drive, no reimbursement. WTF?
But like I said, it's really quite funny when you think about it.
BTW, RAB is right, there is LARGE trunk money on these cars--I just don't think it's enough to justify a new one when there seem to be plenty of 00's and 01's out there with very little miles at $30-35 thousand less dollars. The 129 market is somewhat goofy--pretty soon you'l pay the same thing for a super nice "no" miles 97 that you will for an 01!
Crazy!
