SL/R129: Driveline issue

Driveline issue
New member here and I apologize if this has been discussed or covered, I was unable to find any answers using the search function.
I have a 1995 SL500 with @107k , It was making a clunking noise when in reverse .
While driving yesterday ,accelerating from a red light the. At make a loud noise then stopped driving.
The shifter goes into drive , reverse but the car does not move. I was able to push the car off the road.
When I put the tranny from drive back into park you could here it clicking like the tranny was moving but the wheels were not .
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also the tranny has not leaked but I haven’t checked the fluid level .
