Painting bumpers and touch up on SL
What would be a rasonable price to pay a paint shop for painting the front and back bumpers on an SL 320 and touching up about 10 stone chips and scratches on the black paint surface? MB bodywerks wanted $1800.I thought that this was way too high. What are your thoughts.

I recently bought my SL and the dealer had the bumper repainted by First Choice for 175.00. The color match is perfect, the paint is holding up nicely so far, and I am very happy.
I used Park Place Bodywerks when my old Benz was hit by a stripper in a parking lot a couple of years ago. I also insisted that my wife have her Lexus repaired there a couple of months ago when we were rear ended at a stop light. In both instances the end result was great and I was very sure that they did a thorough job.
The downside is that they take forever and I mean forever to finish (I have been told by 2 seperate insurance adjusters that they are known for this) and they are very expensive. The bottom line is that if money is no object and the insurance company is footing the bill for a rental I will definitely go there. But, when money is an issue and I want it done relatively quickly I look elsewhere.

Thanks for the info.I think I am going to try Staurt's an independent body and paint shop who are well known for their work on Porsche's.I am thinking that $200-$300 for painting the bumper is more reasonable.Another curious situation is the black chrome on the front grill.Mercedes says the grill comes in black chrome when new.But every SL I have seen shoes shiny stainless steel slats on the grill.Any insight into what happens to the black chrome over the years? My brother thinks it may be the heat from the engine that breaks down the black hue.
