Exclamation 500SL thats feels like a 300

Hey guys, I've just found out a weird problem with my 500SL. It's a early 1992 CIS euro car, still uses plug wires and caps. It is still before the bad wiring harness and ETA problems.
While driving the car, there is quite a noticeable differente before and after ~3500 rpm. I can actually feel the car pull much much stronger after 3500. In any other situation the engine is smooth as silk, and very responsive.

The car has 25.000 km and just did a major service with:
  • All engine and trans oil and filters
  • Spark plugs
  • Rotors and Caps
  • Fuel filter
  • Air filter
  • Crank Position Sensor (car once died while running for 30 min in Park)
Also, I just read the codes and the number of blinks were 9, 12 and 2 for pin 14. Pin 8 gave me 17 blinks. (It's a 16 pin system)

After a little bit of searching on foruns I went and looked at the MAS Relay and this is what I found:

Is this red wire supposed to be here? It connects from the OVP to the MAS relay with a 15amp fuse. Also, the MAS Relay it's not from a M119, looks like from a M104 engine.

Any idea about what's all this?

Thanks

The MAS module pinouts are different for an M104 and an M119. To power the MAS from the OVP someone added that red wire and fuse. That probably isn't enough to provide full functionality to your M104-version MAS. I'd get the proper one for your engine.

I just replaced mine too yesterday, and my car completly changed! It's amazing how different the car suddenly behaves. Under 3500rpm it feels like I just gained 50hp, revs alot smoother and the cut out at 5500 is gone! Revs up to 6200 I think!

Thank you so much for all the info. Amazing to see how such a small piece can make a car drive complety different!

Now I'm gonna drive the heck out of it this summer!
