sl320 leak

My first posting. We bought a sl320 '93 a couple on month's ago for my wife's 40th birthday. had a few issues at the start but now (mostly) pleased with it-it looks & drives great BUT we have a very bad leak on the passanger side, the carpets were soaking after one particular night of heavy rain. Local Merc garage reckon we need new hard top roof seals etc (at a cost of over £1000!), had a local guy look at it, he adjusted the door a bit but it still leaks but we can't tell where it is getting in. When we put a hose on it, it looks like it is 'bubbling up' from the seal at the top of the door where the window starts & maybe works it way under the door seal into the rear foot well and then forward (we are on a slopping drive). Very frustrating, any ideas would be most welcome?
Thanks Mag

I don't see how you can avoid replacing the gaskets, unless you don't drive it in the rain.

If you are handy, you can actully replacing the gasket yourself.

In don't think a failing rubber seal could account for that much ingress of water. Check the area in front of the windscreen to make sure water can drain away; if the drain holes are blocked by leaves or other debris, the water will drain away through whichever route it can find.

Very important you dry the car out thoroughly with a dehumidier or fan heater, otherwise you are storing up problems for the future.
