2000 sl 500
fuel pressure problem sl 500

Hi guys. I have a 2000 sl 500 that sat for about 15 years. Only has 18k miles on it but there is a lot of rust and debri in the fuel tank. The other day I lost power and the fuel pump started making a racket so I limped it to the shop where they replaced the filter and pump. The tech showed me the debri that had made it's way into the fuel pump inlet. Anyway, after picking it up from the shop I barely made it home when it started acting up again. Would fall flat on its face if I gave it any gas and the check engine light came on again. The light is coming on for a lean condition. Is there some kind of screen inside the fuel tank that you know of? How hard is it to replace the fuel tank? My guess right now is that the pump is unable to get enough gas out of the tank. I was planning on putting an inline strainer on the inlet side of the pump in case any more debri gets out of the tank but if it's not flowing...

There is a filter in the tank at the screw connection to the line to the pump.
