Shift linkage or driveshaft?

Hopefully someone else has experienced this but my SL now has no reverse gear, takes a lot of effort to get moving when in drive (like it doesn't catch until you're doing 3000 RPMs) and all the whole it makes a rattling/clanging noise. I peeked under the car and there's nothing hanging out under it, no CEL either. I know my W203 Wagon had an issue with the bushing between the shifter and transmission coming undone but when that happened the car wouldn't even go into gear so I'm inclined to believe it's something with the driveshaft.

Hopefully someone has some input on this. I'd find it hard to believe it needs a transmission rebuild considering how stout the 722.6 is

Transmission failure

It sounds like you have major transmission or torque convertor failure.
