Learning about switches and controls.
Dumb question time. What is the purpose/function of the W/S toggle switch next to the shifter in my 1999 SL500?

Check out this site for an owner's manual. It will list what all those switches and buttons are for.

Hope this helps
Check page 88 of the 1999 manual.
"Program Mode Selector Switch"
The transmission is provided with a
selector switch for Standard "S" and
Winter/Wet (snow and ice) "W"
program modes.
Pretty sure this is what you are asking about.
