2000 SR129 OBD Reader - 38 pin under hood
What is the best reader for the 2000 500 SL R129. I have an adapter for 38 pin which is under the hood. Is there a 16 pin in the car somewhere? Or is there a compatible OBD reader?

You 16 pin OBD port is under the steering rack.
Your proprietary 32 pin port is useful if you have the MB star diagnostic tool with laptop.
you can still use the 32 pin port if you have an adapter with your hand held scanner, but you won't be able to access or clear certain errors

I use an Xtool D7, cost about 400.00 through Amazon.It read codes and data though my 16 pin connector. Its under the driver side dash near the console, it has a little door that drop down. I also have a Snap-On tablet, around 4k but I found it in a car I bought at auction.
