500SL Does not start

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum,

My name is Laurens and i'm from Belgium.

Just bought a 500SL 1990 couple of weeks ago and yesterday just when i arrived home, put the car in PARK position and engine turned off.

I restart it with depressing accelerator pedal but it won't idle.

Same problem when engine is cold.

So engine will start ONLY with accelerator pedal depressed and WON'T idle.

Any help would be nice.

Thank you in advance

Laurens

If you could try and check your fuel pressure, it may be a clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pump. It took me about an hours time to change them both.

Hi BenzBopper, thank you for answering.

after few more test, IAVC is OK and OVP is OK

Getting about 2v to the IAVC when ignition ON. don't know if its good...

The car start only with throttle and i had a test drive and it runs perfectly, Just cannot release throttle otherwise it stall immediately even in gear when driving.

What is you Advice ?

Thank you

My SL500 is a 2000 and what kept my car from starting was the crank sensor. I had even changed out the cam sensor. It took me a while to resolve the issue but fortunately those sensors were easy to access and change. The crank sensor had a heat shield right next to it and I put a slight bend in it to make clearance for the crank sensor bolt.

Throttle linkage has a idle position connector ,cleaning the pins on this, Icv and air flow. connectors will isolate these.
