Window Problem on '93 600SL

I have a 1993 600SL with 85K which has been relatively problem free until lately. The side windows now will make contact with the outside of the softtop when I close the door with the window up, bending the glass outward. I am afraid that I will break the window, so I have been lowering the windows, closing the door, then raising the windows remotely when I lock it. This is a major pain though. Are the windows out of sync?

Does your car have the automatic sealing windows? When you open the door, the window goes down about 1/4 inch, then when you close it it goes back up and seals. I'm not sure if the '93 has that. My grandma has a 2001 SL500, and sometimes her windows get out of sync too, it's only happened three of four times. I do the same thing you do, lower the window, shut the door, close the window, but after I do that the window is fine and works correctly, but you might have to take your car in to the dealer to get the sensor replaced

Try to 're-sync' the windows - sit in the car, open the both window all the way down, then close both the windows LEAVING your finger on the window switch for an extra 4-5secs once it reaches the top.

That re-syncs the windows.

Hope that works for you.

OK, I will give that a try. I hope it works too. I don't even want to know what it's gonna cost at the dealer.

It's possible the window has gone out of adjustment. Because they are frameless, they are a major pain to adjust, so it's worth resynching the windows first, especially if what's wrong is the window going too far in the right direction. The fun starts when the window is not moving square to the door...

I needed a new passenger door after an argument with a gate post and there's a ton of stuff to transfer from old to new and it took the people who did the work a couple of attempts to get the window adjustment correct.
