Just bought a 98 sl500 w 65k miles. I can't open the hood. I know there is a piece that should come out of the center emblem (I've owned sl before) but it's a no go. the center piece only came out a little bit, then I put my finger in there and ended up shoving it all the way. It's disappeared. Can I open the hood without having use of the center pull piece? Can a mechanic typically open the hood from underneath? Any other suggestions. There is also a screen behind the louvers so no way to see or get to latch that I can think of?. I'm in the dark. Thank you all.
