SL/R129: confusing oil pressure warnings
confusing oil pressure warnings
'98 R-129, 87000 mi. Filled up at gas station, driving home and after 4 miles had the following: Check engine light, Low oil warning light (yellow), BAS light and radically fluctuating oil pressure gauge. Oil quantity is fine. Shut it down and let it cool for an hour, started it up and everything is working fine, Anybody have any clues on this? BAS and oil pressure surely aren't related. What wiring would they have in common? Thanks

Check for codes with a scanner first if none then it's been posted that capacitors fail in the cluster they can be replaced. But it may just be a glitch too. May also be the oil pressure sensor check that connection is clean They do fail. I've had the BAS for no reason and fix was turn steering wheel stop to stop..Check that the cable thats connected to the positive clamp on your battery is tight

On my ML500, the oil change warning intermittently comes on then goes back off. The sensor is bad, but I'm too lazy to change it at this time. I check the oil often, and even with 220k it burns essentially none. On that car, the light is only signifying that you're ~1/4 quart low anyway.
