Wheels and Tires for 1998 SL500

Hello y’all! I’m purchasing a really beautiful low miles 98 SL500. Of course, with most low miles cars the tires are dangerously dry rotted. I am unsure on wether I’ll replace my current SL with it or if I’ll sell it. If I go the route of selling it, should I replace the stock 16”s with Monoblocks or should I keep it stock? Simply going for resale value.

The car should bring around $15,000 as it has a pano roof, it’s also pristine, If it were a higher mileage cheap SL I would just sell as is.

So for resale only, should I upgrade to Monoblocks? Also, what tires in y’all’s opinion make a car most appealing. For my personal cars I really love Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+ and they are about $150-250 less than Pilot Sport All Season 4, but I know that Michelin is a much more reputable brand.

Thanks y’all!

If you are just flipping the car, sell it as is. Don't sink any more into it, just sell it.

I would just replace the tires with the Michelins on the wheels you have - so that prosecutive buyer will have a good test drive experience. These older cars don't ride like newer cars - remove the variable where they will try to negotiate down due to poor ride / old tires.

When it comes to low mileage cars originality matters, I'd keep the stock rims.

New tires really depends on you, personally I'd spring for a new set (original brand if possible). That way potential buyers will feel like it's a low mileage car that was cared for vs a low mileage car that has just been sitting and rotting. On the other hand, whatever premium you get for having new tires will probably be equal to what the tires cost anyway, so the ROI is probably negligible.

90K is lower than 276K.

I'd say 90K is pretty low for a 26 year old car.
