Recently I paid a shop to diagnose a weird stutter which often lead to a stall with my 1998 SL500. They determined it was the camshaft position sensor and wanted to replace it for $500. Knowing it’s a fairly easy repair I decided to attempt it myself. I bought a sensor that all the auto parts places said would fit the car, I even cross referenced the original part. The old one is missing this plastic piece that the new one has, as a result I can’t fit the new one into place. Are all the auto parts stores incorrect or am I missing something?
