It does NOT have the AMG Sport package.

I've done a Google search and looked on eBay. MBUSA says "discontinued".

I assume there must be an aftermarket manufacturer making them now.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

The only covers newly made are from Duraflex and I don't know if they make covers for the regular style body work.

This one is actually not that bad.

So will a 97 SL500 front bumper cover fit my 98 SL600? (neither have AMG sport package)

I have read that the front end on the SL600 is slightly longer than the 500/320 and thus the 600 has a specific front bumper cover.

Does anyone have part numbers on these covers? Thanks.

There is only one number for a Sport front bumper cover, so you should be good with any (V8 vs V12, 6 banger for that matter) middle year on up bumper cover.

Are you sure? My 600 does NOT have the sport package. The 97 500 donor car does not either.

The MBUSA site on the exploded diagram of the front bumper assembly gives part # 129-880-14-70 for the 500/320 and # 129-880-17-70 for the 600.

You have the regular style (AKA facelift) body work for your year car.

It looks like the two numbers are for two different cars (600 and other).

It is interesting that the Sport body work listed below the regular body work on both diagrams, lists only one number (WA 129-885-01-25).

I know where to find that WA number on my Sport front bumper cover, but I don't know where to find it on the regular body work.

Quick update: I successfully installed a front bumper from a 97 SL500 on my 98 SL600. Both are non-AMG cars. Fit perfectly. I'm not sure why the bumpers from the two cars have different part numbers.

I just went through this and can confirm jmallears post. I replaced the broken front bumper cover 1298801770 with a refurbished (just try and find a new one at any price) 1298801470 on my 1997 SL600 and I also can't tell the difference between the two parts. The replacement bumper fit perfectly. In researching this, I learned that the pre-facelift R129 did indeed have different lengths for V12 and non-V12 SLs, hence a longer front bumper cover for the SL600, but the post-facelift R129s are all the same length and have the same length front bumper cover. This applies to both sport and non-sport models. Hopefully this can help other people in the same situation. But good luck to you if you're reading this post in the future, because these bumper covers are getting as rare as hen's teeth.
