Seat Belt-Tension Retractor

Newby here...Just hoping someone may have had experience with the seatbelts in the R129 SL500 (mine is 2000 model). The passenger seat belt clips and does what it is supposed to, BUT does not allow the passenger to lean forward (does not continually tighten which is nice.) Some looking around made me think there MAY be a sensor that could be replaced but other info says the problem is likely inside the belt retractor mechanism itself. Any ideas? I am willing to "send it in for repair" so if there are recommendations for vendors that do that, that would be helpful too. Just cannot find any YouTube explaining DIY options. Also if there is a recommended aftermarket parts source that would be helpful too. Gulping a bit at the $705 sticker from the dealer. Thanks I advance for any experience you can share!

Same issue

I have the same issue. Does anyone have the wiring schema for R129 seat belts. I suspect there is a sensor that may have failed.

Child seat button

I figured it out. On the passenger seat to the right there is a button to select person or child seat. Mine was on child seat so it was locked in tension made. Switch it to person mode and it should work fine.

yes another member pointed that out to me, so glad it was just my ignorance that was easily helped!
