SL/R129: Attempting conductor plate replacement - advices

On Sunday will be attempting a transmission conductor plate replacement on my 1997 SL 320. In fact, my SL won't shift over 2nd and just "clunks" into gear both in D and R. Following your advices, I ordered a full 722.6 conductor plate kit suitable for my VIN and will be swapping the new one in this Sunday.
I asked the help of a friend with a car lift at home because in no way I want to do this job on the ground and I believe this was a good move.
Is there anything I should consider? Any tips from anybody who has been there before?
I already booked a visit at the local MB shop for clearing the codes with Star Diag after the replacement - I understood it is the safest way.
Wish me luck!
