SL/R129: Original posts from 12 months
For my own interest I cross referenced the member names from who had originated posts on the R129 forum over that year (sorting out the R129 owners from non owners where the information was available) to the member names that have responded to the "how old are the R129 owners on this form" thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-r129/53587-how-old-r129-drivers-forum.html
As it currently stands there have been (49) "how old are the R129 owners on this form" respondents on the above thread
... and there have been (99) other R129 owners who started threads in the past year.
So as far as the size of our R129 forum community goes. I'd say there are about (148) R129 owners that were active originating threads or responding to the age question on this forum over the past 12 months.
If there are say 150,000 R129 cars still on the road in the world (12,000 + per year x 12 years) ... our R129 forum community represents about 0.1% of the R129 owners in the world.

I do wish that I knew any one personally who owned (... or even knew what an SL500 was). I live in the suburbs and work in a very conservitve field. Plus there simply are not that many SLs in Vancouver, period.
I try at times to whip up (for my personal enjoyment I guess) a little excitement in writen form of owning and driving the R129.
vrra once commented some thing (very true as well) to the effect of "the R129 is one of the finest cars ever created. It does not require discussion"
