I have not raised my soft top on my 99 500SL in some time. It does not function. I called the dealer and they recommended I raise it with the engine running and idle holding at 1500 rpms because of the power drain of the pneumatic pump on the system. I tried this but nothing happened. Any tips before I head to the dealer?????????

Was your top operating well before this issue? I had this happen to me once- after cleaning the car. Backed it up to the garage, brakes squealed some due to water contact. When I started the car, the top won't go. After searching , aparently the squeal triggered the speed sensor and locked the top. It apparenlty read that the car is in motion and it was stuck on that setting. solution: drive the car for 10 mins. Stop, than try it again. It should reset the sensor this time
Moral of the story: squeaky brakes will not let your top down.
