SL/R129: ASR light on!

ASR light on!
my car is a 1993 sl 500
i start my car and it struggles alittle but not too badly due to the cold and starts up and the ASR light comes on, the outside temp is pretty cold, 20 degrees F
the car drives but on limp home mode with reduced power and alot more force on the accelerator, even with restarting the engine the light stays on
after warming the engine by drivng for about 15 min, i restart the engine and the light is gone and the car starts and drives fine
is this something that anone else has experienced?
