'06 Sl500 - New engine?
Has anyone heard if the 2006 SL will have the new V8 with it's refreshed bodystyle? I think this is the V8 that is being introduced with the upcoming S-Class.....5.5L producing around 400 hp?

Wanting to know...
I haven't heard about the it's timing in the SL but it's announced for the new S class and the new CL. I'm waiting to buy as if it comes out next year it might be a nice daily driver and alternative as compared to the SL 55...
I would think info should be leaking out soon? :p

Nobody knows for sure. But im my whole opinion, if more of the mb 500 series cars start getting new engines of the same, then I would expect the SL500 to follow.

Dont belive him so eagerly, nobody but the main mercedes people know whats going to be happening in the future (at least in general), The only thing that I have heard & seen of for 2006 is a new front grille. I saw pictures on Autospies.com. However, it could be possible that the 2006 will be the SL550 because this particular test car did NOT have any model badging on it (it did have a slightly different shaped vents and tailights, but not AMG-inspired), so maybe it will be a new "SL550"... maybe it wont:

I do belive this to be genuine for the 2006 SL, mainly because I can not find anybody who sells a front fascia for the SL to that style, nor any modifications involving the rear bumper and tailights position. And it seems too smooth to be a custom job in my opinion.

And also on a side note, the side mirrors seem like they may fold in.
:v great for those narrow alley way high speed chases
edit: or maybe they move fowards and backwards for better customized visibility for the driver?

ALSO, I just realized that on the rear fascia that the area between the tail pipes has been updated to a more performance like look, but once again, not quite AMG like, since it only has the duals for exaust. Im starting to very well believe it will be the SL550
Edit: Since their dropping off a model, shouldnt they add one? Anyone for a SL700 :v :v ... I hope this dosent depreciate the value of our SL500's like it did when the R230's were announced to replace the R129's. I dont think it will affect it much, since there are not that many changes... at least not visually

Depreciation, on older SL 500's like a rock, who would want 302 HP when you could in theory get 400 hp with new generation ('05) DVD Nav, and most likely a 7spd. What's the spread price-wise btw '03 & '04 SL500 based on transmission alone? I think it will widen the gap on pricing and accelerate deprecition just IMHO...

They are the same lights only with the clear glass in the center instead of the all red.

I like the new tail lights and also IMPO that pics are from the mew AMG an not for the SL550 because the changing in engine come first in the S class and them in the other classes of MB, again it my personal opinion.
