Different SL Grilles

Hey Guys,

I was wondering how the grille options play out on the SLs.

I have a 2003 500, the grille is grey (plastic) with the 3D star... I've noticed on some cars that the grill may be black with chrome and a flat emblem...

Is this a change over the years? or possibly the series (55, 600, etc)?

Thanks!

Mike

Cars with the flat emblem have Distronic. The radar unit is mounted behind the emblem. I'm not sure about the different grill colors...

That's the only difference on the grill and for the metal stripes that is an aftermarket option, as far as I know.

The SL600 has always had a different grill and now the SL65 has the same grill. That is that it has chrome strips on the edges and is finished differently.

The other cars have the same grills with no chrome and a different finish but the same shape.

As Carlos says, it has been this way since 2003 and hasn't changed.

The grill slats on the SL 55's have much more metallic in the paint than on the regular SL 500. The regular SL is similar to the old Brilliant Silver whereas the 55 is almost a true metal flake paint that the custom hot rods use.
