Super-lightweight

Would people buy the soon to be produced super-lightweight version of the SL? I have my doubts. I believe most people buy the SL because it looks good. Its sales are driven by the aesthetic value of the car. It is certainly not because it is luxurious (Lexus does better), not because of performance (think Porsche), or reliability (think any other make). I wonder if the super-lightweight is going to be more or less expensive. I think that an SL65 version of the super-light would even more than overkill. Let us see what happens.

Is Mercedes going to make a SL lighter than my current SL500? The current SL weighs more like hippo in the car world.

I got this information in Europe, I believe "European Car", and also in the April 11 issue of AutoWeeek. The debut of the SL Super-lightweight will be at the Frankfurt auto show this fall. You may also interested in the new P8 Mercedes, which will be a mid-engine 6.3 liter V8. It will be sold as a McLaren and placed, price-wise, between the SL55 and SLR. It will probably debut in 2008, hence the P8 code name. There has been some skepticism as to whether the P8 will be produced particularly since they are aiming at around $ 200, 000
