Don't forget about the Corvette's standard retractable hardtop:

1. Lower windows
2. Pull front two latch releases out and away
3. Release rear handle
4. Remove roof panel and "retract" into rear cargo area (or garage, to increase cargo capacity)

This marvel of engineering may be a bit more rudimentary than the SL's, but hey, fewer trunk leaks, and hardly any squeaks/rattles!

It's features like this that makes the Corvette a credible alternative to an SL.

At least the Corvettes have Blue tooth. Does the SL have it?

I sat in one yesterday and it is not my cup of tea. Wife also said she will not allow thte vett in the garage.

Not sure whether the SL has Bluetooth for 06 or not. I don't think the Vette has ventilated massage seats or parktronic either. My point is that the comparison between the two vehicles is rather silly. The Corvette and the SL are both great cars with world-class performance and rich heritage. But I don't think the average SL buyer considers a Corvette as an alternative. It's like choosing between a burger and a filet mignon from Ruth's Chris. Most people faced with this choice are looking for more than just the protein.

this is true, nothing can compare to an SL , if it has problems or not when its good its the best car on the road...and has been for many many years

Before we start auguring who has a better car I just want to point out something. The car manufactures share technology among each other. The anti-pinch window motor in the SL R230 came from Audi. In 2006 BMW will use the nano Mercedes paint technology. I do admit that Mercedes is one of the leaders in creating new car technology, but Mercedes is also a leader to use new car technologies because their customers are willing to pay for it. Mercedes was kind of last to use the 4-value per piston technology.

Mercedes made some very bad decisions in their parts and their manufacturing, but they will get over it and become a quality leader again in the distance near future. I am glad that my father passed away with the memories of Mercedes being a world class car in style and quality. He will definitely be saddened to hear about Mercedes quality issues today if he was living. I remember that he told me to pay off your house when you get successful and then buy a Mercedes.

I just have to say I was a little disappointed when I get my SL500

Why are we even comparing the vette with the SL? The corvette is a poor man's sports car...LOL. Porsche? That's another POS.

It amazes me that so many people have their noses so high in the air for owning a Mercedes. I know a lot of people that drives vettes, and they have more money than all the people combined on this forum. It seems that new money people wants to have the end thing and make fun at people that do not have more expensive stuff than them.

Car is supposed to arrive at the port on the 23rd, the dealer said I may not be able to pick it up, they were going to check, may have to wait to the official release date for the 06 SL's. It would be nice to know when that is too.

Absolutely. You can't tell how much money someone has based upon the car they drive. That's simply absurd. Reading through these posts you will see that there are people putting themselves deeply into debt, borrowing 100 K and more, so that they can drive a Benz. A more sensible person would be driving a Yugo. Nothing wrong with that.

In any case, having lots of money (as some people here certainly do) is no substitute for character. The conceit on these forums is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

New money? I just don't think corvette's are worth what they are selling it for. And no, I'm not new money. Maybe you are that's why you're getting hurt.

I checked out the C6 Corvette, aside from performance and nice looks, its simply not worth $60,000.00+/-. Get a new SL .

I sat in one the other day. I just did not like the inside. I did take a look at the Aston Martin that LovingSL600 is recommending, but I just do not know if I want to spend that much now. It took me a while to get over the idea of spending a 100K for a car. If I had a better dealer, I think my experience would be better.

getting back to the topic of this thread - I'm in agreement with MJ-- that getting the Lemon Law to apply is pretty iffy. If you are a super repeat customer of the dealer you might get further by giving them an opportunity to make you a satisfied customer through other concessions. (Selling a replacement to you at wholesale, extending the warranty, etc.) While your problems sound legit, I can imagine the prospect of a hypocondriac personality type who is always imagining problems and keeps bringing the car into the shop to the point where it ends up being in the shop over 30 days because of the customer, not because of the problems.

Of course, the squeaky wheel does get the grease (just be careful the shop manager puts the grease on your wheel, and not in a face pie.)

The main problem that I have is that it takes over a week for the parts to come. It took a week for a center consol part and a week to get a new trunk seal ever time I bring my car in for water leaks. I never had this problem with my 2002 SLK 320.

But it’s my imagination that I had to take the car in 4 times, because I get a pond in my trunk after it rains and my imagination that my center console would not open. It is also my imagination that the dealer did a sloppy seal replacement. Look at the gauges and scratches around the seal.

If you dealer wants to he can get the parts in 1 day if it is at the local PDC or 2 days if it is transferred to one of the other 5 PDC's accross the country.

The designation is called VOR which means Vehicle off Road. In that case parts are overnighted one day within the USA and 48-72 hour drop from Germany.
