iPod solutions for 2005 SL600
Done the searches....results inconclusive.
Seems DensionUSA is about to relase a fiber optic interface that will work to put an iPod into a 2005 SL. Anyone found a solution thus far?

I agree full integration would be good. In the meantime, I've tried the aux jack (if you have one) and an iTrip which works fine if you select a frequency not used locally, not always possible in our crowded air-waves. Add a goose-neck holder clamped to the windshield and it's made my CD changer completely redundant.

I use the AUX jack in the glovebox - works great. Just plug in a cable with mini stereo jacks at both ends. This doesn't offer a charging solution but the iPod battery lasts several hours (if you need more than that, you can get a Belkin piggyback battery back that holds 4 AA batteries).
However, some '05 Mercs don't have the AUX jack at all. MB must have deleted this feature during the '05 production somewhere. If you don't have the AUX jack, I don't know of any other solution at the moment for the fiber optic systems. It's my understanding that Dension will have a solution for the fiber systems sometime soon.
Dont waste your money on the iTrip, though, unless you're in the middle of nowhere with an available FM frequency that has no signal at all.
