MB has issued a service bulletin that requires the flashing of the ECU. The dealer service tech does the flash and the $6400 RennTech flash is gone. Is it going to cost another $6400 to have it done again? Thanks in advance.
Why not just call RennTech yourself?

You can relate this to modifying licensed Microsoft Software and then selling it as your own.
Regardless, the same basic "operating" parameters are modified on the ECU regardless who does it... that to me cannot be considered stolen information.
Altering copyrighted information (ECU Software from MB) and then modifying it, then reselling it to the person who is originally licensed to have it, is more illegal, from my point of view.

I'm not exactly sure how they modify it, for all I know it could be brand new re-written code.
Plus, you don't own a license to your car, you own it and anything in it. With software from Microsoft, as far as I know, you simply 'rent' it when you purchase a license.
You're right though, if the same stuff is modified, it can't even be considered stolen, because it's just information right?![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I wish we could update our own ECU's with our laptops at home.

My RennTech experience was that I supplied my VIN and that was emailed to a contact at Bosche or Seimans who writes the code for most factory ECU's for European cars. Approximately, 24hours later, my new ECU is sent via email and then uploaded to the car. It sounds like each engine is individually mapped at the factory and then adjustments are made to the turbo wastegates, timing and other issues like speed governers, rpm limters and etc... Hartmut and others are constantly giving feedback to Bosche or Siemans regarding performance or other possible issues. From what I understand, messing with the ECU programming is very complicated and time consuming to "get it right" as there are SOOOO many variables. They can do MUCH, MUCH more to the ECU's but, RennTech's philosophy is to provide a HIGH performance car that doesn't break! ...and can be run everyday. RennTech provides the ECU upgrade that's within the operating perameters of the car from the factory. So, if the car off the show room floor is running at 75% of capability, the upgrade might bring the car up to 95%+.
I've had nothing but pure joy driving my machine for nearly 20k miles with the upgrade.

I planned
I planned to do it tomorrow, but I want to get this vibration issue handled first, so if I go to the dealer the don't give me some bull about it, even though it should make absolutely no difference.

You truly are weird.
When we got our second LS, we went to Dallas right away for a wedding and I got my first speeding ticket a few months back for going 17 over the limit.
I got lucky, I was planning on supercrusing at 120mph! :o

You'll be able to get both the Eisenmann exhaust and the RENNtech ECU upgrade from him.
