SL350 in the US?

I have heard that the SL350 will arrive in the states as a 2007 model. Has anyone else with any well placed sources heard or read the same?

A SL350 will screw up the values of the SL class...

I would much rather see the SL400 cdi. Twin-turbo v8 diesel.

I would much rather see the SL400 cdi. Twin-turbo v8 diesel. Huge torque, 30+ mpg.

Diesel

I just don't think I could have an SL with a diesel engine no matter what the performance level of the car is. It just seems odd to me.

And the diesel smell when stopped in traffic with the roof down?

Actually, MB have done amazing things witht he new diesel engines. They've all but eliminated the rattle and exhaust smell. Check out the new E320 cdi. You'll find it difficult to believe you're driving a diesel.

SL55 AMG
The SL350 is the entry level model in Europe but it's difficult to see the point because it's not that much less than a '500 when you compare like with like. The fuel ecomony may be fractionally better but even now, the cost of putting fuel in an SL is nothing compared to the annual depreciation.
