Sirius Satellite Installation

I want to add Sirius to my '04 SL - dealer quoted around $1,100 installed and it is supposedly prewired for it (there is already a "SAT" button on the COMAND)

Here's my question: What needs to be done for installation, specifically what needs to be taken apart? And does the COMAND unit need to be pulled from the dash?

I plan to use the under the hood sat antenna like Lovin had in his SL600.

Everything behind the front seats must be pulled to mount it behind the panelling on the passenger side... the fiber optics are spliced into the connection at the teleaid/voice control module.

The comand has to be coded for the changes and to make the sat button actually work.

Then you would need to pull the sill plate etc. to route the antenna wire under the hood. You can also mount a mini antenna in the interior right in the middle of the dash at the base of the windshield.

$1,100 is a rip. "List" price is under $700, and includes the first year of the Sirius service. My dealer has a Terk trunk mounted antenna. It comes prepainted to match the car. It's a little more cost than the standard antenna, but it is much smaller and looks reasonable on the trunk.

Yes, the newest antenna looks much better and smaller. I am going to go with that one instead, color matched to my 744 silver.

The list price you quoted is for the parts *only*. I called several places, all were about that same price. The dealer charges around 400 or so for labor, thus totalling about 1100.

I want the dealer to do the install because I want the warranty to remain intact. If an independent shop does the install, MB can void the warranty.
