Brushed Aluminum Center Console Piece
I was going to get the brushed aluminum center console piece for my 05 SL 500 to replace the Walnut wood that I currently have. I think the aluminum piece will compliment the aluminum/metal pieces that are scatered all over the interior of the SL. I was quoted a price of $1850 for just that piece (not inluding the door pieces, which I plan to leave as wood to match the steering wheal and shift knob). Does anyone know a place where I could get this piece at a lower price? I have contacted a couple of "Mercedes-Benz Parts places" that came up on a Google search with no luck.
Thanks in advance to all that respond.

I think there is greater balance with just replacing the center piece. It matches (with balance) all the silver trim on the front cabin , doors (handle and compartment button) and the rear cabin (buckles and hatch buttons). I think keeping the wood on the doors balances out the wood on the steering wheel and the shift knob. To my knowledge, there is no aluminum streering wheel and shift knob, is there?
As you can see, this is all "I think". I have visualized this and really think it will look great. When it is done, I will post some pictures so that everyone can see what I am invisioning.
Does anyone know of another place other than MB where this part can be purchased?
Thanks again everyone.

While we disagree on how it will look, I certainly hope I am wrong.
Good luck and please post pictures. Not sure if you can get this part anywhere other than a MB dealer.

Here's how I'm resolving this:
There is now a painted carbon fiber process...it looks so real, you have to get right next to it to see it's not real. You can even color match it, blue, red, silver, whatever.
I'm doing this to ALL my wood trim.
AS for the steering wheel, I'm having an upholstery shop match the roof headliner suede and put it on the wheel.

Craig, how is the process done? I have talked to my customizer and he says he cand send it out, they will basically sand down the wood pieces and then do the brush metal paint. It may take a month... I can't drive the car without panel... I have also inquired about the aluminum trim from the SL55... I have the 04' model, he told me Germany will not ship out the parts unless it's for the "silver arrow" SL55... I am waiting for an answer from my MB dealer next week... Who does this process that you are describing? You have a price and contact info? I am interested. Thanks!
Oh, FYI, ONLY Mercedes magazine has a vendor in Japan, MP interiors... their distributor in US, www.hans.co.jp And Wald has some carbon fiber trims as well as Kleeman... very expensive.

Wow Chris... those trim panels are not cheap... How much to just spray paint the burl walnut "brushed metal?"
Those silver carbon's are nice... a bit pricey, but very nice...
