MP3 CD Changer Info for '05 SLs
At the risk of being cited as "double poster," the following info is from my post on the Audio & Electronics forum:
The MP3-capable 6xCD changer in the '06 SL is reported to be a fully integrated drop-in replacement for the non-MP3-capable 6xCD changer in the '05 SL.
The MP3-capable 6xCD changer in the '06 SL is reported to be a fully integrated drop-in replacement for the non-MP3-capable 6xCD changer in the '05 SL.

Sorry, but I honestly do not know the factual answers to your good questions. I would suggest you go to my post from 1-27-06 on the Audio & Electronics forum entitled: '06 SL/SLK CD Changer Compatibility Question, and seek your answers there from the members knowledgeable on these important details.
My belief is that you can simply drop-in the MP3-capable CD changer from an '06 SL into an '05 SL and it will be fully recognized and fully integrated with the COMMAND system. Maybe this is one of those "too good to be true" stories, but this is my understanding so far. It is also my belief that '04 and earlier SLs do not have this type of interchangeability with the '05/'06 SLs due to the different wiring system (MHOST) introduced in the '05 MB models.
I will continue monitor this subject on the A&E forum and report any useful SL-related news here.
