Iridium Silver/Ash Combination?
Can the more experienced MB members provide some guidance regading a potential SL500 purchase?
1) Can anyone give me any guidance on how the Iridium Silver/Ash combo looks in person? Is there enough color contrast to avoid a blah look? I had always envisioned a Iridium Silver/Charcoal combo but I may have to go with the Ash interior to get other options
2) What is the consenus on the panorama sunroof? Does the car still get pretty hot even with the sunshade in place? How do you think it affects the lines of the car?
3) Any oither strongly recommended options?
4) How easy/hard is the navigation system to use?

Check the picture threads here. Check DuPontRegistry.com as well. You'll find photos of that color combo w/o a problem I'm sure.
Second, you want to buy a car off the lot, which is why you're having to compromise on your color/interior choice or you just don't want to order one and wait?

I think that Silver and Ash is a fine combo.
Get the options you want...or have them go into Netstar and find you what you want on the ground. Delivery time won''t be more than a week. There are a TON of SL's on the ground in the USA right now.....

I loved the old 744 Brilliant Silver and Ash combination. My SL500 was that.
I was really disappointed when they got rid of the Brilliant Silver and replaced it with the Iridium Silver.
744 Brilliant Silver has been with MB for ages or at least it had been.

Hi MNJohn,
I have a 04' SL500 Silver/Ash. I love the combo. Gotta keep your butt and hands clean though because the ash is a bit light, easy to get dirty. My take on some of the options...
Pano Roof is a must, the black top does not ruin the look of the silver car, but I think it actually makes it look better.. The rear window is got black rim around it anyways so the black on the roof actually looks better than the no pano silver roof. On the black cars you can't tell either way. Got to the lot and look. I love the lighting it provides inside. I live in So Cal, it's not too hot. The shade does a decent job of blocking out heat and sun. If you are that afraid of sun, why the convertible?
Other options, Keyless go is great. I miss it when I drive the wife's E500 without keyless go.
Sports package is a must. I don't like the regular SL look. Very wimpy. Unless you are planning on putting after market aero parts, don't skimp on this package. Plus the new ones come with the button shifters on the steering... something that was not available for the o4's...
Distronic... don't know, I don't trust computer to drive my car yet... plus, you are in an SL... don't you want to DRIVE it?
Parktronic... if you got kids, this is good. I have heard mixed reviews on the noise from the warning beeps... some people have turned them off.
Satellite Radio.. awsome except for the ugly trunk top antenna

New 05' DVD COMMAND Nav I heard is easier to use than the CD 04's... I thought the o4's are OK, so the 05's should be good too. Unless you are a bonehead, you will figure it out.
The regular SL wheels... gotta go! Get your own aftermarket wheels, 20" looks awsome! The ride is a bit rougher but it looks lots better.

I have a brilliant Silver on ash and everyone seems to love it. Had a guy in a 360 pull up to me two days ago with my top down and ask what combo it was....really clean look. Charcoal is great too.
The nav is great...I have a 2005.
No pano roof here.
Sport package was a must for me as well.
