Question Regarding Winter Storage
Well, my wife and I took the plunge yesterday and ordered a 2006 Iridium Silver/ash SL500. We are thrilled!
We plan on storing the vehicle during the winter. During the winter we always used a Porsche battery maintainer (plugs into cigarette lighter) to keep the battery fully charged during storage of our 911.
Does Mercedes have a similar battery maintainer that they recommend for keeping the battery charged during storage? If so, where can I buy one?
Also, does anyone know where I can find out what interior surface are vinyl and which are genuine leather. Since different products are used to preseve vinyl and wood I would like to know what the proper preservatives are for the various interior components.

Get a 'smart charger' which has a microchip or whatever to monitor the charging state and need, They are readily available.
If it is going to be stored all winter, put it up on stands or whatever off of the tires.
Put fuel stabilizer in it and fill the gas tank.
There are at least a couple of threads discussing this - have you tried a thread search?

I tried searching but could not find the exact answer. Can a smart charger charge the SL500 battery by connection through the cigarette lighter or must it be connected directly to the SL500's battery?

Did you order an sl 500 or sl 550? i didn't think they are accepting any more sl 500 orders, the sl 550 will be here in april. you might want to reconsider if you did get an sl 500 and wait for a new 07 in april.

I agree with ajf1 and CLKfiftyfive. Why buy the car just to put it into storage? By the time you take it out of storage, the 2007 SL550 will be available and you will wonder why you were so impatient.
