Voice recognition option

Wanted to know if anybody has the voice recognition option on their SL.

I had it on my ML500 02 and S430 and did not use it to much because the commands were limited to the radio stations and changing from CD, to radio or to NAvi.

Not sure have they updated it to do more like control AC or anything else like what the Hondas and Acura can do.

I was planning to have MBenzNL install this option for me but not sure what commands were available.

Thanks

I have voicetronic on both vehicles. It controls Nav, Phone, Radio but no A/C. I just looked at the new Civic coupe to use as a daily beater and Iwas impressed. I suspect that I've bought my last benz becuase of poor reliability and there are other marques that now have some of the advanced features that my benz has for a fraction of the cost and with increased reliability. Sad but true.

What functions of your nav are controled with the voice option? I can't control any of my nav with mine.
Thanks

I have it but like the distronic, never use it. Seems just as easy to hit the button I need than to hit the stalk and keep repeating something until I get it right. Maybe I need to read up on it and give it another shot.

Or say "help" and let the car tell you how it works.

Damn, I learn something new everyday! I didn't know help was a command it recognized. So, what exactly does it control, the radio,cd functions/ navigation functions/phone functions. Anything else?

I use it all the time.

I HATE filling through all those menus via steering to find the audio control menu, and then change tracks.

Keeps my hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road.

I leave my menus over the steering wheel on audio all the time so I guess thats why its no big deal to me. What do you leave yours on? I just wish the exterior temp was in this window as well like my Gwagen and all would be good. That is pretty much the only thing I find myself checking on every once in a while.

The only ones I end up using are external temp at times, as well as consumption and range until next fill up. Sometimes I also use the digital speedo because I like looking at the digital number for speed along with the speedo-needle. (Don't ask...I am weird. )

HELP ! After reading this topic i went back to the operator manual - where it says - voice command system - please refer to the separate instructions - but there are no other instructions found in any of these manuals given with the car

SL-class Operators Manual
Quick Tips Reference Guide
Command Operators Manual
Maintenance Booklet
Service and Warranty Book
Factory Approved Service Products Guide
Mercedes and Mobile Partnership
M-B Club Information
Mercedes Center Directory
Roadside Assistance Program

So, do i miss any manual ? or where do you find the instructions regarding VCS ?

yes, there is a separate manual for voice control. Your dealer should be able to get it for you.

I knew it was a gimmick when I bought the car and a gimmick it certainly is. It's doesn't work well when the roof is down and the mic is picking up ambient noise but I can just about get her to do what I want, which kind of makes a change...

Phone, Nav, Radio. . .perhaps other stuff. It's a nice feature and makes driving more safe. You can spell towns or speak them, zoom in/out. . .lots of stuff still unexplored.

Really you can say the towns or spell them on the Navi system with the voice rec. system.

If that is true that i think it is worth it. I do hate having to mouse the address in.

Thanks.

I'm still waiting for a post reply to my question as to exactly what nav features can be voice controled. None in my car (03' SL500) Manual does not indicate any connection to voice control and nav..
