Trunk picture will follow. But yes, the luggage cover is now removeable. And the CD changer is still behind the driver. Drat. And. A picture of the new engine compartment!

Bluetooth adapter

Curious about the bluetooth adapter, is that thru MB?

Is it available for an old 06 SL600?

Yes. You can use most Motorola bluetooth phones or you can purchase the MB phones. My Verizon E815 will work with the MB bluetooth adaptor. Just click on the link and see if your bluetooth phone will work with MB bluetooth adaptor.

On cold day, just press the red button and it will blow hotter air out of the center vents. On warn days, it will blow colder air out of the center vents. I used those buttons this year and love what can they do. I just do not understand why MB got rid of them in the SL. I also love the feature of the rear view mirror position is programmed to your key. The rear view mirror program feature was removed in the 2005 models.

Why is it only known as the SL550 in the US? Every where else I believe, it's still the same moniker, SL500

Americans live, breathe and die, on the concept that more is better, i.e. larger numbers are better than lesser numbers.

This is mostly true. (except in golf ) For good, or bad. But as the SL model designation has (roughly) represented the engine size in the past, it would make sense to name the new model the SL550, due to the fact that the engine size has been upped from 5.0 liter to apprx 5.5 liter.

I agree, although it appears that over the years, the numbers are less reflective of the engine size than they were in the past.

Nonetheless, the more important factor on this thread is just how gorgeous your new SL550 is ! I'm thinking of passing up on my next S-Class and trying the SL for a few years. Your car is giving me more to think about. I think your color is fabulous, particularly with the new "upgraded" leather interior. I see you are in Mass, and I was wondering if you got this at Herb Chambers? Enjoy your new ride!

Beautiful ride! Congratulations on your purchase.

Just curious, are you leasing or buying it?

I'm lucky enough to be driving the new 2007 S class, as well as this new SL, and they are both great cars. I'm sure you will be happy with either!

You really have to see the color combo in person. I was neutral about it, until I did. They did a real nice job.

All my Benzes have been purchased from Lewbar Imports in West Springfield, MA. For 23 years, they have been fabulous to deal with.

Thanks again!

Thanks!

This was purchased outright. As were my other SLs. Be sure to run the numbers. Buying a high resale value car almost always makes more $ sense than leasing. But situations vary.

Wow, kudos to you. Regarding buying versus leasing, I entirely agree with you. Sometimes, the only difference between buying a $100,000 car on 60 months and leasing it for 39 months (and with only 12,000 miles per year allowed) is a couple hundred bucks a month. The thing is, at the end of paying that much for 39 months, you don't even own the car, so you have absolutely no equity. But, some people prefer that. It definitely makes more sense if you run your own business, just because it's a lot easier to deduct, but loan payments are deductible, too.

If I keep my cars for 3 years, I would lease. The total lease payments would be close to the value lost in the car in 3 years. If I would purchase another 100K car, I would get a 60-month loan and put the money in investments. I am so mad with myself because I am making about $22,000 on 100K investments per year. But no, I am so stupid for paying off the car because my wife did not want to spend $9,000 in interest for the life of the loan.

Traditionally, loan payments as part of a depreciable business expense are "capped" to a maximum amount over the "lifespan" of the vehicle. Lease payments as a deductible business expense are fully deductible up to the buisness usage of the vehicle. Also, leases don't usually appear on business balance sheets since they are "expenses".

I own my business. I leased instead of financed because of that, the finance is capped at something like 10,000 the first year then 1500 for the next 4 years over five year span. Not worth it. Lease, I write off 75% for business over the entire lease period. Substancial tax relief compared to finance. If you got the doe, pay it off. Nobody likes payments. unless you own a bank..

Is the SL perfection or what? I swear the best time to buy a Mercedes is at face-lift time they really nail the details.
