SL/R230: wind screen
I'm curious about this too. I remember reading somewhere that the windscreen leaves a permanent mark on your roll-bar. That, and the visibility is drastically reduced...
Someone that uses it on an ongoing basis please chime in!

i used to think that it did not work, but lately i've been using it and it makes a huge difference especially with the windows up.
i think it will leave marks if kept on for long periods of time. when i'm not using it, i plan on removing it, maybe for a week or so at a time to let the roll bar leather (?) recover.

When I took delivery of my 2006SL in Germany in February, the Mercedes factory tech suggested that I "store" the windscreen on the roll bar. He told me most people just leave it on the roll bar all the time. So, that is where my windscreen has stayed, only with the roll bar lowered. I have only used the windscreen once, and even though it helped lower wind velocity, I felt like I was sitting in an enclosed box. I like being able to clearly see out the back of the car, so I haven't used it since.
I am glad you guys mentioned the permanant marks that can be left behind on the roll bar. My windscreen is going back into the trunk, for now.

I used
I used it tonight, and it definately works. Noticeable difference in the car with it, phone conversations were a lot clearer for the other party too.
If I like my date I will use it to save her hairdo, if I don't like her, no windscreen

We only take it off in the winter.
My wife likes high speed driving as well, but also enjoys keeping her hair the way she intended
The windscreen helps tremdously especially when the windows are up. Great in spring or fall when the temps aren't quite ready for top-down driving.

I use it everytime the windows are up with the top down....or I just go everything down......works great and makes the car look more complete if you have the top down, and windows up (which have some tint on them).

I only put it up when i am on the freeway, and when i exit i put it down again.
It looks cool when it goes up and down, like a spolier of a Porche at high speeds goes up then down again when slowing.
I think that it would be a cool function to have for it to do it automatically when you set a speed for it to go up when the top is down.

Like others say, it works great especially with the windows up on the highway. I have seen some people that seem to not know how it works. They put the roll bar up with the screen on it which it not how it is supposed to work. The roll bar goes down and you manually have to pull the screen forward. When done right it really keeps the wind to a minimum.

I used to lift/lower the roll-bar/windscreen by the roll-bar button when I was too lazy to turn back and lift/lower it by-hand, however I was then looking through 2 sets of winscreen grill, partly blocking the rear-view..

Never Never Never
bought a convertible for the wind...so if the weather is nice, regardless of expressway or secondary roads:
top down
windows down
wind screen - in the guest bedroom armoire where it got put the day we
brought the car home; still in its original packing, never been
opened.

We only use the wind screen when it is below 60 degrees. In the midsouth area, we have a wet cold. We perfer the dry cold up North.
This might sound weird but where is the windscreen? Got my mom a SL500 and haven't really looked the car over but didn't see a windscreen on it.
Is it an option that you have to order or is it just somewhere hidden where i haven't found it. Thanks in advance.

On another note, the windscreen works great. I like how it's a pretty effective sunblocker as well! The immature side of me wants to write a message on the back of it, so that I can pop it up when people are tailgating me for example.
