reactivate tire pres monitor???? HELP

Had my mom call. She's not to automtive savvy and her SL500 is giving her this message. " reactivate tire pres monitor "

I was able to talk her through checking her tire pressure. They are all fine.

So can someone look this up for me. Thanks.

She has to drive the car for ~ 10 minutes after activation in order to get the new tire pressures "learned" by the TPM computer

That or she can manually reset it. Toggle the left steering wheel switch until the tire pressure display is visible in the cluster, then press the reset button between the speedo/rpm cluster. When asked to reset. press the plus sign on the right steering wheel button.

the car needs then to be driven just like ChrisSL indicated. If this fails, one of the tire pressure monitors may be faulty...

Why would this happen. She hasn't done anything to the car.

Sounds like a bad sensor.

Any change of the tire pressure - punctured tire, bent rim, loose valve, etc - will trigger the TPM module and you have to reactivate the system so the computer will "learn" the new pressure -also, any radio interference especially ~ 315 mhz could have similar effects - wireless headsets, 2-way radios, microwave, etc !
