Problem with Rear Strut, and JUST out of warranty
My 2003 SL500 just went in for state inspection at an independent shop, and they tell me that my left rear strut is leaking and it needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately, the factory warrant expired April 26, 2006. Does anybody know why this would occur so early on in the lifetime of the car? Is it common?
Also, do I have leverage to still get MBUSA to pay for this under warranty? The car has 25K miles on it. Who would I contact at MBUSA if my dealership will not agree to repair it as a warranty claim?
THanks guy!

25K is way, way too few miles for something like that to happen. I think you should center your request to the dealer on the low miles aspect. Plus, that strut must have started leaking before the warranty expired.
I always take my cars into the dealer a couple of weeks or a few hundred miles before the warranty is going to expire. They'll usually do an inspection for little or no cost because they know they'll get some work if they find anything wrong.
Hope this helps.

take it to the dealer you bought it from and speak with the service manager, ask him if he would get it fixed under the "goodwill" warranty out of the kindness of his heart(it's his decision). They are allowed so much $ per month to spend on goodwill claims as long as the car is within so many months/miles from going out of the original warranty.

My 2003 Launch Edition SL500 (mfg 2/2002) (48,000 miles) was in my M B Dealership for state inspection 5 months ago, and they told me that my left rear strut was leaking and was replaced under warranty.
