Question on C/S Button

As I understand it, the c is for comfort and the s is for sport
on the button by the shifter.

I was wondering if the ride stiffens when put into sport or does
it just start out in first gear instead of 2nd with crisper shift patterns.

I now have over the 1000 mile breakin period and the owners
manual said to use the comfort mode for the first thousand miles.

Thanks for the advice.

I've never noticed much of a difference whether C or S to be honest.
Guess it depends on how you drive..

I didn't realize that the owners manual recommended the comfort mode. My salesman told me to just keep it in sports mode. I have tried comfort mode but can't really tell any difference.

Sport or Comfort mode

Thank you for the respones

To tell some difference in the settings, just put car in drive for reverse with your foot on the brake and push the button. You should feel a small surge.

C mode used to be called Winter Mode
Sport mode used to be called Summer mode.
C/W starts you off in second gear.
Less torque in second gear so less whiplash.

Hi!

Nice Ride. S is for sport shifting only First gear. C only starts your car off in second not in first. You must also schift up and down .Auto will not work,at least not in my slk55 or my Friends clk55.

The only difference I notice is that if you are at idle and swtich modes you can feel the car move a little.

that's 100% correct! the C used to be called Winter Mode. it was made so that your car wouldn't spin out with too much torque on icy or snowy turf. so the car would start in second gear for a "smoother" and less aggressive take off. the S used to be called Summer Mode for dry and firm conditions where you want your head to bang back on your car seat. hahah

The only function of "C" is to make sure the car can get more traction in poor conditions - not spin it's wheels. It really is only for use in snow/ice. We rarely get either here in Atlanta but on the rare occasion that we do the City is underequipped to deal with it; the "C" mode helps me get around when I have to get out but the roads are too slick to get decent traction in first gear.

I have tried out both modes and noticed a large difference in the rpm shift points. In S mode under normal throttle, the shift rpm is in the 2500-2800 range while in C mode the shift points are at 1500-1700rpm.

The C mode makes the vehicle seem very sluggish due to starting in 2nd gear as well as keeping the rpm lower.
