Engine temperature

In every car I've ever owned the temperature gauge needle always registered about half way. However, in my '03 SL500, the needle usually shows about 3/4 up the gauge (hot)(particularly in the summer, but sometimes even in the winter). I've mentioned this to my service manager and he claims the reading is normal.

Is this the case of everyone else here or should I press this with my service manager?

Thanks, Lloyd

my car is always between a little more above normal to 3/4 up the gauge. this was true for both of my SL's. i think that reading is normal. if it goes above 3/4 then tell the dealer.

Normal is 90 degreees centigrade. (1/2 way between the 80 and 100 marks...) I think what you are describing is normal, but using a number would be helpful.

Mine is around 90, close to 100 degree (Considering the fact that I'm living in a hot tropical country)

Engine temp

Today is the first day I've had the SL out since I posted my original post so I wasn't able to respond to those who had asked for a specific temperature.

Looks like the temperature fluctuates between 90 and 100 (which seems to be the norm). Still seeems hot to me, though.

Look at the E55 Group. Your mtrs thermostat'is most likely a 87 c Stat. That is the Crack open temp. Thats about 189 F. your mtr runs about 200 too 210 F. and that is about right. I can build you a 71C stat. for about $40.00 . plus shipping. go ahead and do a search. Feel free to contact me. or others. Happy motoring ___PTE___
