It would have been great to add a large-hard disk MP3 player that was addressable from COMAND but with the advent of very cheap USB MP3 players - and better and cheaper Media Centers in the lounge, we find that just before we leave we plug an MP3 player into the USB on the MC and simply load up whatever music we want for that trip. This to us was better than burning to disc. This is mostly music, but sometimes radio programmes we've recorded. My main portable MP3 player is 80gb but the one that is most convenient is just 2gb and holds all we need for loads of trips. We then simply start it playing close the glove compartment door and forget about it. A sort of muzak channel where all the tracks are chosen by you - or your better half!
A few years ago a friend died in a road accident which was put down to him being momentarily distracted whilst changing stations on his radio - so I think the pre-loading and forgetting approach has a few unthought-of advantages.

My comment was on the compatibility of the system. It's always nice to have 10 folders of different kinds of music at the 'tip of your fingers'..
