Which company's ECU re-programming would you choose?
For those who want a little boost by -only- having their SL500'S ECU re-programmed, I have done a quick research and came up with following figures / prices. (Among other things, I also wonder why there is a difference in the output.. Do some companies keep a bigger safety margin?)
Pleased to hear your thoughts, previous experience & comments, also by comparing prices, reliability, etc.
www.evosport.com (Powerchip)
-gain abt 9% (abt 27 hp)
-cost abt usd 990
www.mercedesperformance.co.uk
-gain abt 10-12% (abt 35 hp)
-cost abt usd 1,900
www.hs-elektronik.com
-gain abt abt 7% (abt 21 hp)
-cost abt usd 1,650
www.renntechmercedes.com
-gain abt 3.5% (abt 10 hp)
-cost abt usd 1,800
www.kleemann.dk
-gain abt 4% (abt 10-14 hp)
-cost still to be advised
I did not include Brabus or similar others as the upgrades were mentioned as 'performance kits' - and guess that involved more than an ECU re-programming..

On an SL500 I wouldn't even waste money on the chip unless you REALLY want to.
You're not going to feel that major of a difference unless you start spending big bucks to go forced induction.
I got a chip on my X5 4.4i and yes the shift maps were changed it the car was a lot more responsive, but it wasn't worth the money I paid (I less than a thousand$ for it).
