SL/R230: Keyless Go Ringing Driving Me Crazy

Keyless Go Ringing Driving Me Crazy
When I open the driver side door of my '05 SL-500, the seat belt tone begins ringing. This goes on until I start the car.
The ringing also occurs when I shut off the ignition and open the door. The dealer says this is normal for cars with keyless go, but I have trouble accepting this.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks.

Answer No to remove dinging noise
While my car was at the dealership this week, I ask that they "disable" the terrible dinging noise. I was told that it can't be removed....something about it being part of the safety system

I don't believe anyone has yet said they regret having the Keyless Go feature, though clearly the warning chimes are annoying to some members. I have Keyless Go, and I'm glad I have it, and I don't find the warning chimes annoying since it's on for only a few seconds when I'm entering or exiting the car. I would certainly want the Keyless Go feature on my next car.

Incorrect.
I love Keyless Go!
And the Lexus copy, Smartkey or whatever.
And BMW's version as well.
IMO it's nice to not have to worry about where the key is. My pockets are deep and when you have a pen or pencil as well, it hurts to try to dig into them when you're sitting down to get your key.

Keyless go is great, but I hate the chime. It actually reduces the utility of the warning system. You learn to ignore the chime since it goes off every time the door is opened. As a result, you don’t pay attention to the chime when it’s really trying to tell you about something else, like leaving the headlights on. One of the two most counterproductive Mercedes features I’ve seen.
The other, by the way, is the seatbelt mechanism on my old S500. The car is set up so the belt locks in place and won’t extend while you’re in a turn with any lateral G loading. The problem is that I’m usually on a highway on ramp right at that point, and the mechanism prevents me from leaning forward to look around the B-pillar and see the traffic I’m about to merge into (I tend to sit with the seat positioned far back). Very unsafe.
Back on topic, I’d love to know how to turn off the keyless go warning on my 04 SL.

In Australia we have just as many safety regulations as they do in the USA and "seat belt warning" is not coded into our cars.
I tried it ONCE and after 1 nanosecond went back into the workshop and had the coding reversed.
If the technician is really afraid it will make a huge difference just point out the following;
a) it causes road rage - which may in turn cause someone in the workshop to get run over.
b) its a pathetic sound given ringtones have been around so long
c) there is a graphic logo of the seat belt also possible to code without the sound

Kill the horrible chime!
Here's the answer to the horrible chime. I have a 2006 SL600 and it chimed all the time the door was open, key on or out. I removed the chime. Remove the instrument cluster, pop the plastic clips that hold it together and take it apart until you get down to the printed circuit board. On the board is a piezo speaker, cut the leads from the board to the speaker. The chime is gone. No more seatbelt, keyless go or lights on chime. The peace and quiet is wonderful.

Have keyless Go and LOVE IT!
Have no issues with the chime because I close the door as soon as I get in or get out - so it only chimes about 2-3 times. That'll work for you too unless you like to sit there with the door open indefinitely (or 5 minutes when it stops automatically).

Keyless Go chime
Love the keyless go on my 2005 SL55.
Drives me crazy when I switch cars. The CL does not
have keyless. Its a great thing to not fish for your keys.
Just got to remember to put them in the ignition when you Valet it.
The chime is a bit of a pain. I will see if my SA will disable.
Seems stupid. "Remove Key". Its in my pocket you daffy chime.
It does stop after you leave the door open for a minute or so.
But starts again when you open the other door too.
Somebody here will tell us how to disable without taking the cluster out.
I am nowhere near that brave.

I wish MB had a "valet" key .. prevents the RPMs and speed from going over say .. 15mph and 2000rpm.

Honestly, I'd pay $2500 for a feature like that. I avoid the valet like the plague. I've heard too many bad stories, not to mention seen them drive away with other people's cars like they own them.
Maybe someone can come up with an electronic device that can be implemented in the car, where via the DVD-Nav you can switch it to valet mode .. stereo doesn't work, enviro controls are off, conv top doesnt function, etc.
