SL/R230: Playing DVD's in 07?

Playing DVD's in 07?
My friend just got a new 2007 SL550. One of the first things I noticed was the DVD soft button on the COMAND when in Audio mode. Pressing that gives you more options for Play and Menu. When my friend put in a DVD, it said something about the screen being faded out, or something like that.
Is it possible to activate playing DVD's on the US COMAND? On my E Class I was able to get in to the secret menu and switch it to the Euro mode, and this activated the ability in 2003 models. Can the same thing be done here? Or do we have to go through Star Diagnose?
