Winter is coming and it is the first winter to my SL. I have sport pkg and i am not sure how my car will behave in snow. I had 2 BMWs b4 with sport tires and these tires were horrible in snow. I purchased winter tires and 17" wheels for those cars.

Now - do i have to buy winter wheels or will current tires hold a road good enough. Do you guys buy a winter set of wheels? I checked eBay and couldn't find anything specific for winter.

Also, i live in Boston and sometimes we get a lot of snow.

I've had this SL for 4 winter seasons now, living in the North Central Pennsylvania Allegheny Mountain area (State College, PA)- and cannout use it in Winter unless it has 4 snow tires. I have an extra set of 4 Wheels - with Pirelli 240 SnowSport 255/40/R18 95 on from mid-Nov thru mid-April each year, and they work fine. Try TireRack for tires like this.

You totally need winter tires. I used to drive my SLK in upstate NY and the difference between summer and winter tires are like night and day.

Same for the heavy S550.... S500... if u have the AMG sports package, you MUST get snow tires and wheels.

winter tires are definately a must...fortunate for me, mine stays garaged as soon as snow hits the ground

Or move to Atlanta. We get one ice/snow a year that lasts a day.
