Keyless Go button on card?
What is the function of the circular button on the keyless go card? Pressing it doesn't seem to do anything. Beside it are 2 pictures, one with the drivers door opening, and one with both doors opening. I would assume based on the pictures it would have something to do with the door locking, but that can be done by just touching the door hands and the black button on the handles. Anyone know what the button on the card does?

if red light flashes doors are locked.green-doors unlocked.you do not have to be near car to check. i was in a resturant last night and could not remember if i locked doors.the remote card verified that doors were locked.

and.....
if you press and hold down that button you can control wether the car opens just the driver's door or all the doors when you touch the door handle.

That's a pity.
The card fits in your wallet and you just forget about it. Keyless Go will now be a misnomer - you absolutely do need a key to go and there is only some marginal convenience of being able to unlock and start the car without actually using it.
I wonder which bright spark in Stuttgart came up with that one.

this sucks big time.
this sucks big time.
huge mistake on MB's part. charge us an extra $50 for a keycard if it's a big deal.
i will not be bothering to order keyless-go if this is the case.
i do not want to carry keys. i don't carry keys to my office (keypad entries) nor keys to my home (remotes and keypads). the only keys i carry are my car keys, and i dislike it.
i'm very disappointed to hear this :-(

Doody: somehow I would tink they'll charge more than $50.
To me, the keyless go is useless in that it's way too big to be carried in a wallet. If you've seen it, it's about 4 CCs thick - so you'd need a big wallet to carry it.

that is true, bobafett. but i always have my wallet with me. while i've been able to nearly get rid of my keys, my good looks are not yet honed enough to use to pay the bill at the department store or restaurant ;-)
looks like i'll bail on keylessgo. it was a nice concept at least.
still have your m5? i haven't been on bmwm5.com in ages.

SL55 STILL HAS CARD (?)
my dealer just got his first SL55 today. i was able to shoot over there to check it out today.
i asked about the whole card/key thing and the tech there said that the SL55 came in with the card. they think that they may NOT be mandating the key for the SL cars.
the problem was that hubby would start the car and then wife woudl drive off. wife would go to the store and when she came back out, she couldn't start the car. of course the identical problem could happen regardless of the form factor of the keyless go device, but hey, i just buy 'em :-)
fyi.
they of course couldn't say that it would not change, but this car came in with a card. the s class and e class and whatnot no longer come in with cards.

What if you Valet?
When you valet your car, do you give the card to the valet attendant? Or is there a special valet mode so he doesn't need the keycard?

Don't see the point of doing away with the card. The attraction for me was a different form factor, it can be in your wallet, your shirt pocket, whereever. If you still have to carry something that looks like a key, the fact that you no longer have to use it is little benefit.
The engine continues to run if you get out of the car with the card. If they want to avoid the situation Doody describes, they should prevent the car being taken out of park unless the key is detected inside the car. You have to press the brake pedal to do so now, so it's just one more interlock to add. A Simple Matter of Programming as Bill Gates would say.
Some people have made the comment that Keyless Go could help in a car-jacking because the guy would drive off and would not be able to restart. Whether there is a real danger, I do not know, but there have been a few cases of people being mugged/murdered here in the UK for a lot less car than an SL55 and I've just added a recessed button which kills the engine permanently after two minutes, whether or not you have a key.
