SL/R230: Keyless Go button on card?
The card fits in your wallet and you just forget about it. Keyless Go will now be a misnomer - you absolutely do need a key to go and there is only some marginal convenience of being able to unlock and start the car without actually using it.
I wonder which bright spark in Stuttgart came up with that one.

huge mistake on MB's part. charge us an extra $50 for a keycard if it's a big deal.
i will not be bothering to order keyless-go if this is the case.
i do not want to carry keys. i don't carry keys to my office (keypad entries) nor keys to my home (remotes and keypads). the only keys i carry are my car keys, and i dislike it.
i'm very disappointed to hear this :-(

To me, the keyless go is useless in that it's way too big to be carried in a wallet. If you've seen it, it's about 4 CCs thick - so you'd need a big wallet to carry it.

i asked about the whole card/key thing and the tech there said that the SL55 came in with the card. they think that they may NOT be mandating the key for the SL cars.
the problem was that hubby would start the car and then wife woudl drive off. wife would go to the store and when she came back out, she couldn't start the car. of course the identical problem could happen regardless of the form factor of the keyless go device, but hey, i just buy 'em :-)
fyi.
they of course couldn't say that it would not change, but this car came in with a card. the s class and e class and whatnot no longer come in with cards.

The engine continues to run if you get out of the car with the card. If they want to avoid the situation Doody describes, they should prevent the car being taken out of park unless the key is detected inside the car. You have to press the brake pedal to do so now, so it's just one more interlock to add. A Simple Matter of Programming as Bill Gates would say.
Some people have made the comment that Keyless Go could help in a car-jacking because the guy would drive off and would not be able to restart. Whether there is a real danger, I do not know, but there have been a few cases of people being mugged/murdered here in the UK for a lot less car than an SL55 and I've just added a recessed button which kills the engine permanently after two minutes, whether or not you have a key.
